Wow, what’s the problem with WordPress these 2 days… I’ve been having sooooooooooo much problems logging in…. anyway, another strategy to try…. simple and straight forward…. now that I’m more familiar and comfortable with MQL, this should be relatively easy to program….
1) Previous 30 bars below (200?) MA
2) MA Short Term < MA Long Term
3) Breaks above (200?) MA (on watchlist now)
4) Break back down within 10 bars

ok, here’s my ‘hypothesis’… gotta program them to check if they help me avoid losses:
1) Skip a BULL trade if the current bull trade is losing money (or if the current bear trade is making money – optional)
2) enter trade mentioned above only if pair closes above high by 5 pips within 4 (or 20) bars
OR
1) Skip a BULL trade if close is below MA(50).
2) enter trade mentioned above only if pair closes above MA(50) within 4 (or 20) bars
Test all EAs without Pyramiding, all ticks, M15, $3000 initial capital
Target:
Consistent Profit from 2004 to 2008.
More than 10k profit in 2008.
More than 3k profit per year from 2004 to 2007.

After repeated testing and trying out various strategies, I think MA is still the best. Furthermore, there’s lots of free websites that allow us to screen using MA.
However, since I am using options, I cannot afford to follow the trend for too long. I decided to try testing the following:
1) Do not buy if either of the MACD lines is +ve
2) Sell when MACD histogram turns +ve

Just got back from Hokkaido. Not an extremely memorable trip, but nonetheless very pleasant. Was hoping that it’ll enlighten me in some ways, especially that it’ll give me a valid reason to quit my job. Was torn recently over whether I should resign; am thinking of resigning today. Don’t know how to….
Anyway, some good news……..
I backtested a trading strategy and for once, it gave me a positive result. Either my programming skills improved or the strategy is really superior. Guess it is both.

Two observations:
- Stocks will not neccessarily reverse when they hit the bands/moving average.
- Stocks tend not to reverse when they are not at the bands.
Gotta rush for work now, so decided to pen down these two observations first. See how I can use it later to help me filter failures.

Daily Chart of SPR (a losing position last month)

Daily Chart of PGR (a short position I currently hold)
Currently holds a short position for PGR, which has a chart that’s eeriely similar to the chart for SPR.
Main similarities:
1) Stocks reached resistance.
2) Stocks have been up a fair amount this month (Compare monthly charts below)
Main differences:
1) SPR has broken above resistance, although by a small amount, but the volume was above average. PGR has yet to break resistance ($20).
2) The resistance for SPR has been touched only twice prior to opening of position. The resistance for PGR is ’threatened’ 4 times without been breached.
3) PGR has a longer trading history (which makes it’s monthly moving average more reliable?)
4) PGR has a monthly moving average that is clearly trending downwards. In addition, the stock has once touched the monthly MA and bounced off, resuming its downtrend.
